Recently, “Wuyi Bamboo Innovation, Where Chinese Tradition meets Sweden’s Green Future” Bamboo Culture Series Event and China · Nanping ‘Wuyi Bamboo Cube’ Promotion Conference was successfully held at China Cultural Center in Stockholm. Co-organized by Nanping Municipal People’s Government, Shaowu Municipal People’s Government, Europe Asia Center, and Fujian Shaowu Bamboo Cube Brand Operation Co.,Ltd, the event was attended by over a hundred guests from Swedish business, cultural, and artistic circles focusing on sustainability and green environmental protection. Erik Solheim, President of Europe Asia Center, delivered a video message praising “the picturesque beauty of Wuyi Mountains, the exceptional quality of world-renowned Wuyi tea, and the remarkable achievements in the bamboo industry.” Ambassador Cui Aimin of the Chinese Embassy in Sweden emphasized that China has vigorously developed green and low-carbon industries and has taken concrete actions to meet its carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals. The Chinese government and the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization proposed the “Setting Bamboo Alternatives as the New Plastic” initiative, offering a nature-based solution to support global climate action and sustainable development. The “Wuyi Bamboo Cube” vividly showcases the latest achievements of innovation in Nanping’s bamboo industry and highlights the vast development potential of the bamboo industry. He expressed the hope that this event would help further deepen cooperation in bamboo science and industry, and contribute the power of bamboo to global carbon neutrality goals.

Yan Rui, Secretary-General of Europe Asia Center shared: “Bamboo is more than a plant – it is a cultural ambassador weaving together China’s tradition of sustainable living with Sweden’s leadership in climate action.” He Mingxing, Vice Mayor of Nanping provided an overview on the development of the bamboo industry in Nanping. He highlighted that Nanping has vast bamboo cultivation areas, a large-scale industry, a complete industrial chain and promising growth prospects. He expressed the hope that China and Sweden can open a new chapter in green and sustainable development through cooperation in the bamboo industry. Guo Feihong, Mayor of Shaowu, introduced the “Wuyi Bamboo Cube” regional public brand: “As China’s first regional public brand for a bamboo producing area, ‘Wuyi Bamboo Cube’ holds a brand value of 22.324 billion yuan, fully demonstrating its growth potential and industrial competitive advantages.” Hussein Askary, Vice Chairman of  the Belt and Road Institute in Sweden; Natalia Lopez, Circular Economy Lead at PwC Sweden; and Vide Richter, Head of Strategic Engagement & Partnership at UN Global Compact Network Sweden delivered keynote speeches at the opening ceremony.

Subsequently, Chinese and Swedish guests engaged in in-depth exchanges focusing on cultural cooperation and sustainable innovation. Participants in the forum included Estelle Li (Curator of Revelstions China), renowned architect Nicolas Godelet, sustainable furniture designer Emma Olbers, artist and writer Stella Chen, Du Jinxiang (Chairman of Fujian Dushi Wooden Industry Co., Ltd.), and Stephen Brawer (Chairman of the Belt and Road Institute in Sweden).

During the event, a bamboo culture exhibition was held, featuring hundreds of exhibits from the “Wuyi Bamboo Cube” brand, symbolizing the harmonious coexistence of art, culture, and nature. These exhibits and engaging cultural interactions received high praise from attendees. The bamboo culture and art exhibition, themed around “Bamboo” and “Tea” and creatively designed around traditional Chinese scholarly lifestyle scenes, will continue to be on display at China Cultural Center in Stockholm.
