16:40–17:10 Lecture: Discovering the Beauty of Peking Opera
Speaker: Prof. Li Yanyan (National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts)

Li Yanyan is an Associate Professor and Master’s Supervisor in the Department of Peking Opera and Kunqu Opera at the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, and holds a Ph.D. in Xiqu Performance and Directing. A recipient of the Silver Award in the CCTV National Young Peking Opera Actors Television Competition, she has also been honored as a Beijing Distinguished Young Teacher and recognized as an Outstanding Instructor in the “Guoxi Cup” Xiqu Competition. She has long been a frequent guest on various programs of the CCTV Opera Channel.

Guests: Li Shengsu, Ma Shuai, and other Peking Opera masters

Li Shengsu, a National First-Class Performer at the China National Peking Opera Company, is acclaimed for her interpretations of classic works such as The Drunken Cuncubine, Farewell My Concubine, and The Legend of the White Snake, she is celebrated as a leading representative artist of contemporary Peking Opera. Having performed around the globe, she is highly esteemed by audiences worldwide and has made outstanding contributions to promoting and preserving Peking Opera on the international stage.

Ma Shuai is an Associate Professor and Master’s Supervisor in the Department of Peking Opera and Kunqu Opera at the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, as well as a National First-Class Performer. She graduated from the Fourth Session of the National Outstanding Young Peking Opera Performers Training Program. Among her awards is the Performance Award from National Young Peking Opera Performers Competition. Her signature performances include Female Generals of the Yang Family, The Legend of the White Snake, and Mu Guiying Routing Hongzhou.
