When the clay of Jingdezhen meets the soul of Nordic design, and when the millennia-old Eastern porcelain-making tradition encounters Western contemporary artistic perspectives, what sparks will fly? On the afternoon of September 17, the art lecture “China’s Stories: BORN IN THE FLAMES” was successfully held in Stockholm, offering the Swedish art scene a refreshing cultural dialogue.

Chinese artist PuMu Huang and Swedish artist Torsten Jurell shared their unique experiences of learning the craft in Jingdezhen, China, describing how they delved into the heartland of Chinese ceramic art to seek a new artistic language through the fusion of fire and clay.

The event sparked lively discussions around several core topics, including the contemporary preservation of cultural heritage, the revitalization of traditional crafts, innovative expressions of material language, and new models of cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Swedish artists actively posed questions on the development of Jingdezhen as a ceramic center and its attraction of international artists. There were also thorough discussions about the transformation of traditional culture into modern forms.

Many participants expressed that this cross-cultural dialogue opened up new creative perspectives for them, highlighting the shared challenges and explorations faced by art practitioners across different cultural backgrounds.
