Peking Opera Mesmerizes Stockholm

On September 24, 2025, a Peking Opera reception celebrating the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China was successfully held at Oscar Theatre in Stockholm. More than 800 attendees were present, including Chinese Ambassador to Sweden Cui Aimin and his wife, Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade of Sweden Benjamin Dousa, friends from various sectors, diplomats stationed in Sweden, overseas Chinese residing in Sweden, as well as representatives from Chinese enterprises and students in Sweden.

Led by Yin Xiaodong, President of the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, renowned performing artist Li Shengsu from China National Peking Opera Company, together with teachers and students from the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, devotedly presented the classic Peking Opera piece The Legend of the White Snake. The performance brilliantly showcased the distinctive features of Peking Opera, integrating singing, recitation, acting, and acrobatics. The melodies ranged from exquisitely delicate to powerfully stirring. With their mellifluous vocals and superb skills, combined with elaborate costumes and a captivating plot, the performers offered the audience a visual and auditory artistic feast. The guests were fully immersed in the performance, erupting in rounds of applause from time to time, creating a friendly and warm atmosphere.

From September 23 to 27 in Sweden, Chinese Opera Cultural Week is an important part of “A Moonment to Remember” series of activities organized by China Cultural Center in Stockholm. During the time, a range of activities, including exhibitions, opera film screenings, and workshops, will be presented to Swedish audiences, showcasing the charm of Chinese Peking Opera art.
