March 18, the 2026 “Chinese Language Day” and the first “International Taijiquan Day” theme event, co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Sweden and China Cultural Center in Stockholm, was held in Stockholm. Chinese Ambassador to Sweden Zhou Limin, Huang Liqiong and Li Rui, counselors for education and cultural affairs at the embassy, Yan Youqing, professor of Chinese at Uppsala University, Fincio, president of the Swedish Wushu and Kungfu Federation, Wu Dong, professor at Beijing Sport University, and more than a hundred teachers and students from local schools participated.

The event vividly showcased the beauty of the Chinese language and the charm of Chinese martial arts through various forms, including cultural lectures and martial arts performances. There were both Chinese topic sharing sessions and demonstrations of Tai Chi and traditional martial arts. Through immersive interactive experiences, guests were able to appreciate and participate in feeling the unique charm and contemporary vitality of Chinese culture.

Ambassador’s Speech:
Language and Martial Arts,
Building the Dream of “Great Unity” Together

Zhou Limin stated in his speech that Chinese culture has always emphasized “harmony without uniformity” and “unity of man and nature,” pursuing the harmonious coexistence of man and nature, and inclusive mutual learning among people. Chinese language and martial arts carry the Chinese nation’s pursuit of a world as one family and great harmony under heaven. He hoped that Swedish friends would learn more about the Chinese language and culture, engage in mutual learning and exchange in China-Sweden cultural exchanges, and promote mutual understanding, affection, and friendly relations between the peoples of the two countries.

Joakim Enwall introduced his over forty years of Chinese language learning experience and the development history of Chinese education in Sweden. He stated that learning Chinese helped him enter a world he otherwise would not have been able to access, and in this process, he continuously changed himself, making the effort completely worthwhile.

Fensio said that there are many friends in Sweden who love Chinese culture and Chinese Kung Fu, with martial arts clubs all over the country and many schools offering Chinese language courses. “International Chinese Language Day” and “International Tai Chi Day” are gradually becoming important festivals for the Swedish people to participate in and share the charm of Chinese culture.

Martial Passion Cultural Soul
A cultural feast of
strength and grace

This event fully demonstrated the theme of “Martial Passion Cultural Soul”. Professor Wu Dong, a doctoral supervisor at Beijing Sport University, gave a special lecture titled “The Connotation of Chinese Martial Arts”, which elucidated the Eastern life wisdom contained behind martial arts from the philosophical perspective of Yin-Yang balance in a simple yet profound way.

Subsequently, Professor Wu Dong’s team presented a splendid display of Chinese martial arts. Fists and feet generated wind, movement and stillness combined; hardness and softness complemented each other, with vivid rhythm and charm. Each move and stance not only showcased the artistic beauty of Chinese martial arts but also conveyed its profound spiritual connotation, winning rounds of applause from the audience.

Attendees said, “‘Chinese Language Day’ and ‘International Taijiquan Day’ are gradually becoming important festivals for us Swedish people to participate in and share the charm of Chinese culture.”

At the end of the event, guests enjoyed mellow Chinese tea and exquisite Chinese dim sum in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, experiencing the taste of China and planning their trips to China.
