Connecting Hearts Through Art
Co-creating Nature’s Poems
On the afternoon of April 24, the “Imaginära landskap” Painting and Sculpture Exhibition officially opened at China Cultural Center in Stockholm. This exhibition brings together a number of outstanding Chinese and Swedish artists, who, using painting and sculpture as their medium, collectively embark on a profound dialogue about art, nature, and the inner world.

On the day of the opening ceremony, nearly 200 professionals from the Swedish art scene, museums, and cultural institutions, as well as art enthusiasts, gathered together, and the atmosphere was warm. The audience lingered in front of the artworks, feeling the unique charm brought by the artistic language from different cultural backgrounds.
Across mountains and seas
Exploring common artistic conceptions
The exhibition specially invited four Swedish artists—Olof Bendz, Håkan Bull, Ricardo Donoso, and Eleonor Ryding—to share their creative concepts at the opening ceremony. The artists engaged in a dialogue centered around Chinese sculptor Wang Hui’s works in the exhibition, deeply exploring the commonalities of Chinese and Swedish art on the theme of “landscape.”

They discussed that despite the distinctive forms of expression in Chinese and Swedish art, their focus on and perception of nature are highly consistent, both closely linked to inner emotions. The concept of “artistic conception” (yijing) in traditional Chinese aesthetics can also interpret the spiritual qualities in Swedish art—the landscapes on canvas are both a presentation of the external world and a reflection of the inner world.
Exhibiting artists expressed sincere gratitude to China Cultural Center in Stockholm for building this valuable exchange platform and look forward to deeper dialogue and cooperation with Chinese artists in the future.
Audience Voices
Resonating Cultural Symphony
During their visit, many attendees shared their feelings from the perspective of comparing Chinese and Swedish art. Some viewers expressed that Chinese art emphasizes “artistic conception” and inner expression more, while Swedish art demonstrates a unique tension between natural observation and individual experience. However, both form a beautiful resonance in their sensitivity to nature and poetic understanding. This cross-cultural echo allows the exhibition to present an artistic landscape that is both distinctly different and interconnected.

Beauty in diversity
Opening a new chapter of exchanges
This “Imaginära landskap” exhibition is not only a feast of visual art, but also a deep dialogue spanning cultures and languages. Through art, a universal language, audiences can find common emotions and understanding across different cultures, opening up new possibilities for cultural exchange between China and Sweden.
