In springtime Stockholm, cherry blossoms are in full bloom, and all things come alive. In this Nordic city where classical elegance meets modern vitality, a quiet dialogue on Eastern life philosophy was also unfolding. On 25th April, “China’s Stories” – Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Culture Lecture and TCM Workshop, hosted by China Cultural Center in Stockholm, took place as scheduled, attracting many Chinese and Swedish guests as well as local residents, all eager to experience the unique charm of TCM culture.

At the beginning of the event, Swedish acupuncturist Martin Eriksson delivered a special and engaging lecture. As a “China connoisseur” who studied at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and earned a master’s degree in acupuncture and tuina, Martin combined his academic experience in China with his clinical practice in Sweden. In a context familiar to Western audiences, he demystified TCM culture in an accessible yet profound way. From pain management and stress regulation to elderly care and the preventive concept of “treating before illness”, Martin used vivid cases and friendly language to bridge cultural gaps, allowing the audience to truly appreciate the practical value of this ancient medicine in contemporary life.
After the lecture, the event moved into its most anticipated segment – the TCM workshop. Several experts from Swedish Acupuncture Science Association (ASAS) and Swedish Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine, together with seven seasoned TCM practitioners from China – covering fields such as acupuncture, tuina, and internal medicine – provided on‑site pulse diagnosis and health consultations. The audience not only observed TCM diagnostic procedures up close but also sat down for one‑on‑one conversations with the experts, experiencing first‑hand the unique approach of “looking, listening, asking, and feeling the pulse”. The atmosphere was focused and warm, and many participants expressed that this “tangible and experiential” format transformed TCM from an abstract concept into practical, everyday wisdom.
This event served as an exchange in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine between China and Sweden. The participants are not only inheritors of traditional skills but also practitioners who promote the international exchange of TCM. Through a combination of theory and hands‑on practice, TCM is no longer simply regarded as a “mysterious Eastern medicine”, but is gradually becoming an understandable, applicable, and cross‑cultural health concept, gaining genuine attention and recognition in the Nordic region. As one participant said, “This was not just a lecture; it was like a window that allowed us to see another way of understanding life and health.”
In Stockholm, an inclusive and open city, TCM is making its way into local society in a gentle yet profound manner, injecting new vitality into Sino‑Swedish exchange and cooperation in the fields of health and culture. China Cultural Center in Stockholm will continue to present more high‑quality cultural events, telling the true, multi‑dimensional, and comprehensive “China’s Stories”. Stay tuned to discover more of the charm of Eastern wisdom.
