From a photograph to a painting,
discover the stories behind the lens and the brush.
When Nordic light meets the brushwork of the East, a dialogue between photography and painting is about to unfold in Stockholm.
At 5:00 p.m. on August 21, 2026, China Cultural Center in Stockholm will jointly open two exhibitions: Beyond the Lens and Eastern Essence, Symbiosis of All Things.
Photography captures the world through the lens; painting reveals the spirit through the brush. Together they meet in one shared space, opening a journey of cultural exchange that connects stories, aesthetics, and the human spirit.

Beyond the Lens features more than 60 works by Chinese and Swedish photographers, spanning China’s magnificent landscapes and intimate moments of everyday life, inviting visitors to discover the heartfelt stories behind each image.

At the opening, the participating photographers will share the stories behind their work and their experiences of cross-cultural exchange. More than a photography exhibition, this is a journey of cultural connection between China and Sweden.

On the same day, the second-floor exhibition hall of China Cultural Center in Stockholm will present Eastern Essence, Symbiosis of All Things, a contemporary Chinese painting exhibition by the Li Keran Academy of Painting Art Research Center.
Featuring more than 30 works in ink, mineral pigments, heavy color, and meticulous brushwork, the exhibition spans traditional landscapes and contemporary urban scenes, showcasing the diverse expressions of Chinese painting and the distinctive spirit of Eastern art.

At the opening, Professor Zhang Gan from the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, will lead a guided interpretation of the exhibition, joined by participating Chinese artists for a face-to-face exchange with the audience.
