On August 16 , the 14th World Choir Games concluded successfully in Helsingborg, Sweden. As one of the world’s most influential international choral events, this year’s competition, organized by China International Culture Exchange Foundation, brought together more than 160 choirs and over 8,500 singers from more than 40 countries and regions.
The Games featured two main competition categories—the Champions Competition and the Open Competition—with divisions covering a wide range of age groups and genres, including children’s, youth, senior, pop and folk categories. An international jury of renowned choral experts evaluated performances according to rigorous professional standards, awarding Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards as well as world champion titles across the various categories. Musical traditions from different regions and cultures came together in a vibrant exchange.
More than 50 choirs from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan took part in this year’s Games, making China the largest national delegation. The participating choirs represented a wide range of age groups, from children and youth to adults and seniors, and included both professional ensembles and numerous grassroots choirs from Children’s Palaces, community organizations and local groups. With solid vocal technique and repertoire featuring distinctive Chinese musical and cultural elements, they won numerous world champion titles and Gold Awards. Among them, the Hangzhou Children’s Art Troupe Choir, Guangzhou Little Swallows Choir and iQIYI Ranzing Choir each claimed world champion titles in their respective categories. Meanwhile, choirs from Tianjin, Changsha, Hangzhou and Guangzhou won Gold and Double Gold Awards across various categories, showcasing the depth and breadth of Chinese choral excellence.
The special concert “China Night,” held during the Games, was a major highlight of cultural exchange. Using music as a medium, Chinese choirs told China’s stories on the Nordic stage, showcasing the diversity and achievements of contemporary Chinese choral art while fostering connections between people in China, Sweden and beyond. According to the organizers, the 15th World Choir Games will take place in Linz, Austria, from July 21 to 31, 2027.
