On March 7, 2025, Reachings Watercolor Exhibition opened at China Cultural Center in Stockholm, bringing together more than 120 Swedish artists and art enthusiasts for a grand artistic feast that transcends time and space.
The exhibition features classic watercolor works by renowned Chinese artist and educator Gu Yuan (1919–1996), alongside the remarkable creations of 14 contemporary artists living and working in Sweden. Gu Yuan’s works are deeply rooted in China’s ink painting traditions. Whether depicting vast landscapes or everyday street scenes, his brushstrokes exude poetic beauty and humanistic care, making each piece a heartfelt dialogue between man and nature. Complementing his works, the Swedish artists push the boundaries of watercolor with bold, experimental approaches. Their pieces use water as a medium to explore abstract, flowing forms, where minimal geometric compositions blend seamlessly with expressive textures, creating a unique artistic synergy.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Sweden, and this exhibition serves as a vibrant artistic bridge, adding a splash of color to bilateral exchanges. It is not only a visual narrative woven from light and color but also a vivid example of international cultural exchange. Through the silent symphony of art, the audience experiences the charm and interconnectedness of different cultures. The exhibition will run until April 25, inviting more visitors to explore the unique beauty of Chinese-Swedish watercolor art.
