1851年,在英国伦敦举办的首届世界博览会上,一名上海商人寄去的12包产自浙江湖州南浔的“荣记湖丝”,荣获了由维多利亚女王亲自颁发的金银大奖。浙江闻名的杭嘉湖丝绸,正是来自于延续数千年的中国传统桑蚕丝织技艺。

In 1851, at the first World Exposition held in London, England, a Shanghai businessman sent 12 packages of "Rongji Lake silk" from Nanxun, Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, won the gold and silver award personally presented by Queen Victoria. The famous Hangjiahu silk in Zhejiang is derived from the traditional Chinese silk weaving technique that has lasted for thousands of years.

蚕桑丝织是中国的伟大发明,5000多年来,传统蚕桑丝织技艺对中国历史做出了重大贡献。这一传统生产手工技艺和民俗活动至今仍在浙江北部薪火相传,是中国文化遗产中不可分割的组成部分。2009年,“中国传统桑蚕丝织技艺”入选人类非物质文化遗产代表作名录。

Mulberry silk weaving is a great invention in China. For more than 5,000 years, the traditional mulberry silk weaving technique has made significant contributions to Chinese history. This traditional production craftsmanship and folklore activities are still passed down to the north of Zhejiang and are an inseparable part of China's cultural heritage. In 2009, Chinese traditional mulberry silk weaving techniques were recorded in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
