The Jinsha River is an important headstream of the mighty Yangtze River, running for over 1560 kilometers through Yunnan province. The World Natural Heritage “Three Parallel Rivers” refers to Nujiang River, Jinsha River and Lancang River, which originate from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the “roof of the world”, and run side by side for more than 170 kilometers in the mountains of Northwest Yunnan. There are sacred snow-capped mountains, deep canyons, quiet lakes, and a mirror-like sky in this area. It is a rare alpine landform and a representative of its evolution, as well as the most abundant area of biological species.
The Jinsha River rushes to Shigu Town of Lijiang, where it suddenly turns eastward, forming a rare V-shaped bend in the endless mountains, which is why people call this wonder “the first bay of the Yangtze River”.
Tiger Leaping Gorge is one of the most beautiful grand canyons in China, where Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Haba Snow Mountain face each other. The Jinsha River in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River surges through the canyon, splashing onto the banks and creating a spectacular view. Tiger Leaping Gorge is consisted of the upper, middle and lower parts and altogether 18 dangerous shoals. The narrowest part of the Jinsha River is only about 20 meters. The huge stone in the river is called “Tiger Leaping Stone”. It is said that the tiger leaps across the river by using this stone as the stepping stone, from which it got its name.
Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is a sacred mountain in the hearts of the Naxi people. According to legend, it is the embodiment of the Naxi protection god “Sanduo”. The main peak, Shanzidou, has temperate marine glaciers in the Eurasian continent closest to the equator. Lijiang under the snow-capped mountains is home to three world heritage sites. Dongba characters are the only pictographic characters still in use in the world. In the ancient city of Lijiang, there are houses with small bridges and flowing water, and strings of red lanterns in front of the shop hang down over the babbling water, swaying in the wind in the night.
Lijiang Baoshan Stone City is surrounded by cliffs on three sides, and there are only two stone gates in the north and south for access. Climbing up the steps along the path in the south of the Stone City, the houses are well-organized, the lanes are criss-cross, the houses are adjacent to each other, the residential houses follow the trend of the rocks, and the tables, benches and kitchen stoves are made of local raw stones. Local people chisel the stones in the courtyard into water vats, and the stones in the houses into beds.
The Mosuo people on the banks of the Lugu Lake have always retained the legacy of the matriarchal clan. Women take charge of the family and property is inherited through the matrilineal system. It is a mysterious land of women in the world. Men and women do not marry, they have dates at women’s rooms at night, and men return to their homes during the day. The children remain in their mothers’ homes. The local marriage is commonly known as the walking marriage. The matriarchal culture and walking marriage pattern inherited by Mosuo people are still like a confusing dream today.
The Yi people’s Costume Festival in Zhiju Village, Yongren County is an ancient heritage with 1,300-year history. On the occasion people indulge in singing and dancing at the melodies of reed pipe (Lusheng) and the four-stringed zither until the night falls. Li Yongfu, an old Yi lady at the Costume Festival, is going to show her costumes with her old friends. This 97-year-old lady has followed her family to participate in the Costume Festival since childhood, and walked on the stage in the deep mountains for over 90 years.
The natural wonders of Yuanmou Soil Forest are like sharp blades, mazes or castles, which are desolate and silent. Walking into the soil forest is like entering a mysterious magical world. 1.7 million years ago, Yuanmou Man, the earliest known humans in China once lived here. Yuanmou people used their own stone tools to hunt and collect, and baked food with fire. Human beings then stopped eating raw meat. Yuanmou people were earlier than the “Sinanthropus lantienensis” and “sinanthropus”. The discovery of Yuanmou Man pushed back the origin of human history by more than one million years, therefore, Yuanmou is known as the hometown of oriental human beings.
As the seasons change, the red soil in Dongchuan gradually becomes more colorful. The yellow rapeseed flowers are in blossom, the wheat is green, different kinds of flowers bloom alternately in various colors, purple, green, white, and golden yellow. The irregular terraces extend from the hillside to the top of the mountain, from one mountain to another, undulating continuously, until reaching the blue sky with white clouds.
金沙江流经昭通的巧家、永善、绥江和水富，与发源于鲁甸的朱提江交汇于水富港，构成了中国西部千里大峡谷环行旅游线，串联着大山包湿地和黑颈鹤自然保护区。8月至10月，荞花、燕麦、芳草成块成片，色彩斑斓。11月至来年4月，成群结队的黑颈鹤在湿地中觅食和栖息，美丽天使的霓裳羽衣裙裾飘拂，舞动春风。
