China-Sweden Visual Arts Festival

China Cultural Center in Stockholm presents “The Diverse Image – Chinese & Swedish Printmaking Exhibition” from March 22 to April 20, 2024.

Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 -16:00

At this fantastic exhibition at China Cultural Center with printworks of Swedish and Chinese printmakers, there is an exciting mixture of graphic techniques like woodcuts, linocuts, etchings, drypoints, and screen prints. And there are also a lot of interesting picture stories and expressions. In Sweden we have had an association and a gathering place since 1910 for every artist who works with graphic art, The Swedish Printmakers´ Association. Nowadays there are 430 members from all over the country. Most of the Swedish artists in this exhibition are members. The decisions that must be made before a graphic image is created are endless. When there is an idea for an image, the artist must think about graphic technology. Then comes the choice of color on the image. Furthermore, the difficulty arises in gravure printing to determine how much a plate should be wiped off before it is printed. In screen printing, the difficulty arises with the order in which the colors should be applied to the image. Other technologies offer other choices. In addition to all this, there is also the choice of paper, which gives different expressions depending on which type you choose. What unites all these artists in this exhibition is the depth of everyone’s image making and expression and also the excellent craftsmanship.
